Cultural Diversity can be illustrated within the ChungKing Mansion (CKM) by the diverse nationalities, the languages spoken or the retail products there. However, the architecture itself is comparatively monotonous which lose its unique characteristic.

CKM is well known for its diverse cultural background of its habitants. In view of it, my project first adopts the methodology of architectural symbolism of post-modern trend. It is to study and adopt traditional architectural languages, symbols and features of the Middle East, African, Indian and Arabian regions (from where the habitants come). Moreover, the existing spatial layouts are modified so that new communal activities, e.g. dancing performance and religious gathering among people from different cultural backgrounds can be occurred.

By these architectural moves, I believe that the experience of the modified spatial layout and the corresponding programs can be enhanced by the proposed symbolic meanings and aesthetic qualities. As a result, new facet and life is brought to CKM and its cultural identity can be enhanced and expressed.
